Description
This picture doesn’t do the piece justice.
Purple heart is a beautiful wood.
The color changes with time and exposure to UV.
When freshly milled, it has a red/brown color.
But leave it in the sunlight and it will begin to turn purple.
The longer the exposure the more the change.
After months and years is left untreated, it will turn brown and gray.
To maintain the purple color a good coat of lacquer to protect it from
further oxidation is strongly recommended.
It is a dense wood and engraves beautifully.
Color filled engravings really jump of the wood.
If you’re feeling really good, gold leaf.
